Our Board sees great value in providing our residents an avenue to clean up their properties easily and conveniently to keep our township looking it’s best. \nOur cleanup will be held on Saturday\, June 4 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 NOON.  This cleanup program is for Wakefield Township residents and taxpayers only.   BRING A DRIVER LICENSE OR OTHER FORM OF I.D. AS WE WILL BE CHECKING THEM CLOSELY THIS YEAR.  Western U.P. Recycling is located on Planter Road/Chippewa Drive\, just off N. County Rd. 519. We appreciate Western U.P. Recycling’s role in helping us expand this cleanup and allowing us to use their facility free of charge. \nCouches\, wood furniture\, plastic items\, and anything not made of steel should be placed in the dumpsters that are provided.  Car batteries and small piles of steel and other metals can be placed on the trailer or in the designated area near the dumpsters. NO TIRES\, REFRIGERATORS\, FREEZERS\, TV’S\, MICROWAVES\, CEMENT\, MATTRESSES AND BOX SPRINGS ACCEPTED AT THIS LOCATION.  These items can be brought directly to the transfer station for a small fee.  Please contact the Transfer Station at 906-932-0600 for pricing. \nWestern U.P. Recycling has been contracted to remove any large steel items from the township residences.  Contact them directly at 906-229-5150.  They will use a skidder to remove cars or trucks which are inaccessible to the road area.  From there\, they will be picked up with a truck.  This service is available in the spring\, summer and fall and to some degree in the winter. \nThis is the fourteenth year of our cleanup\, and thanks to our responsible residents\, our efforts are paying off in making our properties look better and free of junk. I would like to thank the township residents in advance for doing their part in making this a successful cleanup again this year. \nWe also partnered with the City of Wakefield and Ironwood Township and are providing a scrap tire cleanup\, available with grant funds obtained from the State of Michigan EGLE Scrap Tire Program.  Tire removal will cost approximately $4/tire\, with the grant funds covering $2/tire\, and Wakefield Township paying the other $2/tire for its taxpayers and residents.  This is our third scrap tire grant that we have participated in and see great value in cleaning up scrap tires\, as they are breeding grounds for mosquitoes\, lead to blight\, etc. \n  \nThese are the guidelines to follow for the Scrap Tire Grant: \n–Only passenger tires will be accepted.   \n–No tires with rims. \n— You are allowed to bring up to 10 tires and must pre-register by calling Denice at 906-364-3481 or Mandy at 906-364-0669.    \n–You must be pre-registered as tires will not be accepted if you are not on the list!  \n— We will also be taking names and phone numbers if you have more than 10 tires and will call you before the event to let you know if you can bring more. \n—The tires will be collected in the City of Wakefield at their Department of Public Works garage\, located at 3 Industrial Park\, just off US2. \n–Tires will be collected June 1-4 from 8am-4pm. \n–Sign up by May 27th. \n If you have any questions on either of these cleanup opportunities\, please contact me at 906-364-0669. \nSincerely\, \nMandy Lake \nWakefield Township Supervisor \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Project Plan Draft Sec 32 – click to download plan \n  \nNOTICE OF PROJECT PLAN PUBLIC HEARING \n  \nThe Section 32 Sewer Authority will hold a public hearing on the proposed Phase I – Wastewater Improvements project for the purpose of receiving comments from interested persons. \nThe hearing will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday\, May 10th at the following location: \nWakefield Township Hall \n414 North County Road 519 \nWakefield\, MI 49968 \nThe purpose of the proposed project is to complete improvements to the existing wastewater system to provide performance to meet present day regulatory standards\, to replace outdated and deteriorated systems\, and minimize long term operation costs. \nProject construction will involve replacing the current wastewater collection system in the first year with the future year(s) (within five years) project will consist of abandoning the existing lagoons\, expanding the existing collection system in the Indianhead Ski Area\, regionalize with the Blackjack Mountain Ski Area\, and transmission to the BASA WWTP. \nImpacts of the proposed project include short term construction related impacts and financial impacts to the wastewater system users. No significant long term adverse impacts are anticipated on either cultural or environmentally sensitive resources. \nThe estimated cost to users for the proposed project will be approximately $950\,000 total project costs for year 1 and $4\,068\,000 for a project within the next five years with costs to individual users dependent on the level and type of project financing that can be secured for the project. Recycling has been contracted to remove any large steel items from the township residences.  Contact them directly at 229-5150.  They will use a skidder to remove cars or trucks which are inaccessible to the road area.  From there\, they will be picked up with a truck.  This service is available in the spring\, summer and fall and to some degree in the winter. \nThis is the thirteenth year of our cleanup\, and thanks to our responsible residents\, our efforts are paying off in making our properties look better and free of junk.
